4017B Counter Project — More than just a counter
This project has been designed
to introduce the important concept of timing and couting circuits to students using
the 555 timer and 4017b counter circuits. The circuit is very important as it features
heavily in the KS4 curriculum and is the basis for many GCSE electronics projects. It has been designed to have more than
one possible outcome and therefore more than one application therefore it allows
for good differentiation. The unique design allows either a 555 monostable or 555 astable circuit to be used to trigger the 4017b counter circuit.
- The time can be varied with the
variable resistor
- Various outcomes are possible, for example timers, counters, games and dice
- Perfect for GCSE electronics projects
- Multiple building blocks
- Battery powered
- PCB has been designed to allow a 555 monostable or 555 astable to be used
- Uses a 4017b counter circuit
- Clear silkscreen text has been used to
make construction simpler
- Professional double-sided PCB
pre-drilled with silkscreen and solder-resist
- Multiple kit versions available for
maximum flexibility
- Custom kits are available
- Blank PCBs are available
- PCBs and special kits are available from our online store
- Suitable for Key Stages
2, 3 & 4 (ages 11 to 16)
- Documentation and PDF schematic available

A comprehensive kit is
available from our online store. It is possible to change kit contents for example LED sizes
and colours and components can be upgraded, for example changing the
DPDT slide switch for a round rocker switch. If you have
